Being a mother is definitely the hardest job ever, but it is also the most rewarding experience any woman could have! I love being a mom, even when I have really tough days. I've always had this idea of what kind of mom I would be when I was growing up, and I’m happy to say I’m very close to what I imagined. When I first became a mother, it was rocky. I had to go through the learning stages of being patient even when I got frustrated from being tired or upset. Being a mom, in general, is such a learning process. Today, I want to share with you 5 things I learned so far as a mother, that every new mom should know.

  1. Trust your gut.
There are so many controversial topics; should I vaccinate my child, breastfeed or bottle feed, feed my child only organic food? I’ve learned to do what I think is best for my child and to trust my gut. Please do the same when it comes to your child.

  2. Even when you don’t feel like you’re doing your best, you're doing great.
There are many times where I feel like I am not doing a great job as a parent. I think every mom has those moments where she wishes she was a supermom but she’s not. I learned that as long as my daughter is happy and healthy, then I am doing a great job as a mother. Don’t stress over the little things!

  3. Take time for yourself.
It is extremely important to take time for ourselves because when we’re not 100% ourselves then the people around us will be affected. So skip doing the laundry or cooking, and order takeout instead. Enjoy a good movie, bubble bath, do your nails, read a book; whatever it is that will make you feel better, and get back to business when you’re back to being 100%!

  4. Set a good example, which is obvious but I think people forget how much kids pick up on!
Kids watch and mimic you daily. I’m starting to really see Adora pick up on my ways, but thankfully they’re good. She has seen me read and I read to her, so she likes to read now. I tell her good job, and ask her how she’s feeling; I shower her with love and she does the same back. She will ask if I’m okay if she sees me frown. If she sees me doing something great, she will tell me, “good job mommy, give me a high five!" I once read that, “your children will become who you are, so be who you want them to be.”

  5. Learn from your child.
You can learn so much from your child. One of the first things I’ve learned from Adora was how to be patient. I thought I was very patient until she came into my life, boy was I wrong, haha. Another thing I learned is to keep trying. Toddlers are so smart and eager to learn that they rarely give up. They will try and try again until they accomplish their goal. Children can teach you how to forgive, how to use your imagination, and how to find your inner-child.

Those are the top 5 things I have learned in the 3 years of being a mother. I’m sure there are more things that I’ve learned, and I know there will be more things to learn in the future. Since Mother’s Day is around the corner, I want to share five gift ideas to give your mom or anyone that is a mom for Mother's Day!
